Dunkin' Donuts workers pour water over homeless man dozing at table

Jeremy Dufresne - who was charging his phone to say goodnight to his mum - was humiliated and left soaked by the employees of the New York store

Two Dunkin' Donuts employees have been fired after they filmed themselves pouring a jug of water over a sleeping homeless man.

Jeremy Dufresne was taking shelter in the New York café to warm himself up and charge his phone so he could call his mother and wish her goodnight, as he does every evening.

But as he laid his head on the table, two Dunkin' Donuts employees came from behind him and tipped water all over his back humiliating and leaving him soaked in front of other customers.

The pair filmed themselves laughing and shouting at Jeremy as they carried out the callous act.

People are disgusted with what happened

They then uploaded the heartless video online to mock him, but it has backfired as hundreds have expressed their shock and disgust.

Jeremy, who suffers from schizophrenia, can be seen jumping out his seat and grabbing his charger and phone as he desperately tries to dry them.

One of the employees can be heard saying to Jeremy: "How many times do I have to tell you to stop sleeping in here, n****?

"You're here all day. How many times are the customers and the people going to tell you to stop sleeping in here.

"It was no accident, bro. You know I'm not playing with you. I ain't gonna call the cops like I said, you gonna get out of here."

Speaking about the incident, Jeremy said of the employee who dumped water on his head: "He probably had some personal problems of his own and needed someone to talk to and he took it out on someone else, like me."

The 25-year-old, who had ambitions of becoming an artist when he was younger, usually sleeps outside most nights and eats his meals at a Samaritan centre.

However he often stops at Dunkin' Donuts to charge his phone before he calls his mum.

The company - which has changed its name to just Dunkin' - has since said it is "extremely disturbed" by the incident.

In a statement, it said: "It not only violated our written policies, but goes against our core values as an organization--which include creating a welcoming and hospitable environment and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
